Who We Are. . .
San Diego Deaf Mental Health Services provides comprehensive, culturally affirmative mental health services and social work to all deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their family members, regardless of their social or economical condition, living in San Diego County, CA.

SDDMHS is an outpatient, mental health clinic that offers mental health and social work services.

Where We Are. . .
SDDMHS is an on-site partner with Family Justice Center of San Diego, CA and El Cajon, CA. SDDMHS assists deaf and hard of hearing clients access all of the services offered at these sites. Clients are seen at the office but may have a visit at their school site or at home if needed. Click here for details on our office locations.


Insurance and Communication…
o We accept MediCal, Medicare and those with no insurance.
o Those with private insurance are seen on a limited basis.
o Every staff member is fluent in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture and able to work with all communication styles including: those who do not sign, hard of hearing, late deafened and deaf -blind. ASL interpreters are provided for family members.
o Spanish translation is provided for family members.


Our Programs:
Mental Health Counseling - with individuals, couples, and families. We work with clients of all ages.

On-Site School Counseling - with individuals, groups, staff, family sessions, and consultation.

Case Management - assisting clients of all ages with Independent Living Skills.

Domestic Violence
- specialized services and assistance to deaf victims and survivors at the San Diego and El Cajon Family Justice Centers, long term counseling and case management. 

Internship Program - SDDMHS offers internship placement for MA level social work, rehabilitation counseling and mental health students.

Education and Training - working with deaf professionals to assume leadership positions in the community in order to provide culturally affirmative, direct mental health services. Educating the general community about the mental health needs of the Deaf and general accessibility.

Parenting Education - for both deaf and hearing parents.

Wraparound Services - intensive, in-home family services.

Volunteer Support - SDDMHS has a wide network of volunteers who support our community outreach and fundraising activities.

What is Sign Mail?:
Just ask the Sorenson VRS (SVRS) interpreter to record a SignMail message.  The interpreter will then record your message as an ASL video.  SDDMHS will receive an e-mail to tell them about the SignMail message.  SDDMHS will then return your call.
